I
U .. .
.teff Wong [EH]
From: Jeff Wong [EH] '
Sent: Thursday, April 01, 2004 4:47 PM
To: 'mjw@HaleyAldrich.com' I
Subject: Soil and Grab Water sampling at 1805 Harbor, Stockton a
Hi Joe:
The following is the"cleanup"version of the letter I just sent a few minutes ago.
As discussed in our telephone conversation today(April 1, 2004), San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department
(EHD) is directing that grab water samples be collected in the soil borings in addition to the two hydropunch samples at the
site located at 1805 Harbor Street, Stockton, as proposed in the"addendum letter to Site Investigation Work Plan"dated '
April 17, 2003, and the"Site Investigation Work Plan"dated December 9, 2002 prepared by Haley and Aldrich.
EHD previously appoved installation of 2 deep soil borings, 1 monitoring well, and 10 direct push soil borings, with
contingency of installing up to 18 soil borings based on conditions observed at the site and the necessity of defining the
extent of the contamination in soil and in groundwater. However, it has come to EHD's attention that only 2 hydropunche
grab water samples will be collected in the scope of work. This strategy is inadequate in defining the extent of the
groundwater plume at the site. EHD directs that grab water samples in selected soil borings in addition to the two
hydropunch samples be collected and.analyzed in substitution of some of the proposed soil samples.' The
number of soil borings to be installed, as well as the number of soil samples and grab water samples to be collected,
should be based on mobile laboratory results in the most cost-effective manner that will define the extent of the
contamination in both soil and groundwater.
EHD has scheduled implementation of the proposed work with Haley&Aldrich on April 5, 2004. A well installation permit
will be issued by EHD as soon as EHD receives an application.
Jeffrey Wong
Senior Environmental Health Specialist
Environmental Health Department
San Joaquin County
:h
