Weber Street, Third Floor
Stockton, California 95202
Subject: Monitoring Report Fourth Quarter 1999, Inland Paint Company, 117 West
Harding Way, Stockton, California
Dear Mr. Infurna:
This report presents the results of quarterly groundwater monitoring and sampling performed on
December 13, 1999 by ATC Associates Inc. at the site located at 117 West Harding Way,
Stockton, California (Figure 1). Monitoring was performed to determine the groundwater flow
direction and the hydraulic gradient in the uppermost aquifer. Sampling was performed to
monitor the distribution of petroleum hydrocarbons in groundwater at the site.
SITE HISTORY
In March 1990, one 1,000-gallon underground storage tank (UST) and all associated piping and
dispensing equipment were removed and transported off-site. Laboratory analysis of soil
samples collected from beneath the farmer 1,000-gallon UST location indicated the presence of
detectable concentrations of ethylbenzene and xylenes. After the tank was removed, the area of
excavation of the former tank was backfilled with backfill material provided by Stockton Service
Station Equipment.
On January 8, 1998, an ATC geologist supervised the advancement of one soil boring to 41.5
feet below ground surface (bgs). Soil samples were collected and submitted for analysis of total
petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline and diesel (TPHg and TPHd) by EPA Method 8015; and
volatile organic compounds (VOCs) by EPA Method 8260. A Hydropunch groundwater sample
was collected and analyzed for TPHg, TPHd, VOCs, and halogenated volatile organic
compounds (HVOCs)by EPA Method 8010/8020.
Petroleum hydrocarbon constituents were detected in soil samples collected from boring SB 1.
! The highest reported constituent concentrations were observed at 5.5 feet bgs and appeared to
attenuate rapidly with depth. Trace amounts of petroleum hydrocarbon constituents were also
w:1172951quart1y14gr-1999.doc 1
