JUL 26 193 03:38PM TR.0 (707) 762-3614 P.8 <br /> 4.0 PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT <br /> The personal protective equipment requirements for the head, eyes, hands, body, ears, and <br /> feet are specified below for the soil sampling and drilling operation, and for decontamination <br /> procedures. A minimum of Level 17 protection as defined by the U.S. Environmental Protection <br /> Agency (EPA) and outlined in Appendix B of Title 209, Code of Federal Regulations, 1910.120, <br /> OSHA's 'Hazardous Waste Operations and Engineering Response', will be ohsenred onsite. <br /> At the discretion of the site safety officer, the protection level may be upgraded to Level C if <br /> air monitoring indicates the presence of organic chemical concentrations exceeding 1 to 2 ppm <br /> above background in the work area for greater than one minute. Although organic chemical <br /> concentrations in the work area are not expected, air monitoring will be performed with the <br /> organic vapor analyzer (OVA). <br /> If air monitoring by direct reading field instrumentations indicates that organic chemical <br /> concentrations in the work area are 1 to 2 ppm above background, respirators will be required. <br /> The field crew will leave the area if the organic chemical concentration in the workers breathing <br /> zone exceeds 5 ppm above background levels. <br /> Personal protective equipment will be maintained by trained employees and will be inspected <br /> by the project manager or other employees under the direction of the Certified Industrial <br /> Hygienist. <br /> 4.1 Drilling and Soil Sampling <br /> Protection Level: Modified Level D <br /> Head: Hard hat <br /> Eye: Safety glasses <br /> Hand, Neoprene gloves with latex underglove <br /> Body: Tyvex suit or rain suit for spfash protection <br /> Lung: None - half face respirator assembled and within work area for <br /> Level C upgrade. Cartridge: organic vaporlacid gasfhigh <br /> efficiency particulate air combination filter <br /> Ear. Ear plugs or ear muffs as warranted <br /> Feet: Steel-toed rubber boots <br /> 4.2 decontamination <br /> Protection Level: Modified Level D <br /> Head: Hard hat <br /> Eye: Goggles or face shield as warranted <br /> Hand: Neoprene gloves with latex underglove <br /> Body: Tyvex suit or rain suit for splash protection <br /> Lung: None - half face respirator assembled and within work area same <br /> as above <br /> Ear- Ear plugs or ear muffs as warranted <br /> Feet: Steel4oed rubber boots <br /> 7W <br />
