I
PUBLIC; HEALTH SERVICES
SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY
ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH DIVISION
Karen Furst, M.D. , M.P.H. , Health Officer
304 East Weber Avenue, Third Floor • Stockton, CA 95202
209/468-3420
PAUL SUPPLE SEP 2 6 2D01
ARCO PRODUCTS COMPANY
P O BOX 6549
MORAGA CA 95470
RE : Former ARCO #548 SITE CODE : 1127
1612 Hammer Lane
Stockton CA 95209
San Joaquin County Public Health Services , Environmental Health Division (PHS/EHD)
has reviewed the Quarterly Groundwater Monitoring Report, Second Quarter 2001 dated
August 24, 2001 that was submitted on your behalf by Delta Environmental Consultants,
Inc. and has the following comments.
The report documents the groundwater monitoring and sampling event that took place at
this site on June 19, 2001 . Analytical results from the six monitoring well samples were
consistent with prior events in showing non-detect or low-level petroleum hydrocarbon
contamination in the collected groundwater. However, all of the monitoring wells currently
on site have submerged well screens.
Quarterly monitoring reports for the fourth quarter of 2000 and the first quarter of 2001
reported that floating free product was discovered in vapor extraction well VW-5D. Six
vapor extraction wells are on site. Of those six, five are properly screened to intercept first
groundwater. Groundwater in vapor extraction wells VW-1 through VW-4 was monitored
and sampled during the third and fourth quarters of 1998 . Analytical results showed
significant petroleum hydrocarbon and fuel oxygenate contamination in each well. After
these two events, the vapor wells were not scheduled for sampling .
PHS/EHD directs the resumption of the monitoring and sampling of groundwater in the
vapor wells during the routine events.
If you have any questions or comments please call Lori Duncan at (209) 468-0337.
Donna Heran , REHS, Director
Environmental Health Division
('eSL\ Gt L'a cA h
Lori Duncan , Senior REHS Dot Lofstrom, R.
