Installation of one deep, discretely screened monitoring well Eos vertical assessment of the groundwater plume. The
boring for the well will be drilled to approximately 30 feet below the deepest monitoring wen currently on site, or
approximately 95 feet below surface grade (bsg). A monitoring well with 5 feet of screened interval will be
constructed at this depth.
2. Installation of one shallow monitoring well for lateral assessment of the groundwater plume in the down gradient
direction.
I The work plan states that soil samples will be collected at five foot intervals during drilling of the boreholes, but
does not state how many samples are anticipated to be submitted for analysis.
COMMENTS AND CONDITIONS:
1 . The boring for the proposed deep monitoring well should be continuously cored, starting at 65 feet bag, to identify an
appropriate, permeable water-bearing interval in which to set the screen.
2. Soil contamination has not been defined in the former tank pit area (AS-2, 61 .5-foot bsg sample & B-3, 45-foot bsg
sample). SJC/EHD recommends locating the deep monitoring well near soil boring B-3 (between &IW-1 and VW-1).
Soil samples from below 61 .5 feet bsg. must be submitted for analysis.
3. ARCO is declining at this time to install appropriately screened shallow monitoring wells and proposes instead to
sample the vapor wells onsite as being representative of the shallow groundwater conditions. SJC/EHD will
accept this alternative with the condition that all wells are adequately purged prior to sampling, and that they are
not used for remedis tion. Should site conditions change, appropriately screened monitoring wells must be installed..
4. Submit to SJC/EHD a County Well Permit Application, along with the required $89.00 permit fee, and a copy of
any applicable City of Stockton Encroachment Permits or property access agreements for the offsite well.
5. A report of findings must be submitted to SJC/EHD within 60 days following completion of all fieldwork.
6. Forty-eight hours notice to SJC/EHD is required prior to all site fieldwork. -
Lori Duncan, Senior REHS Nuel C.
