This
document presents a work plan to conduct well destruction at Former ARCO Service Station No . 548
(the "site") . The purpose of the well destruction is to remove groundwater monitoring well MW-3 prior
to the widening of Hammer Lane. This work plan presents a brief site description , a summary of
previous site assessments , and a detailed scope of work proposed for the well destruction .
SITE DESCRIPTION
The site is located at the southwest corner of West Hammer Lane and Brentwood Drive in Stockton ,
California (Figure 1 ) . The site is currently operating as a Valero retail gasoline station . A shopping
center is located to the south and to west of the site, single family residences are located to the
north, and a commercial property and a single story apartment building lie to the east. The site
structures consist of a mini-mart, several USTs, two dispenser islands , and associated piping .
According to Unites States Geological Survey topographic map dated 1975 , the elevation is
approximately 10 feet (ft) above mean sea level on relatively flat terrain The nearest open bodies of
water are Fivemile Creek/Slough , which is approximately 3,000 ft south of the site, and Mosher
Slough, which is approximately 3,500 ft north of the site. A site plan is included as Figure 2.
PREVIOUS INVESTIGATIONS
Site investigations began in October 1990 with five soil borings (B-1 through B-5) located around the
underground storage tanks (USTs) and product lines. Soil samples were collected and analyzed for
petroleum hydrocarbons including total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPHg) and benzene.
Hydrocarbons were detected in six of the 18 samples collected. The highest concentrations
detected were 1 ,400 milligram per kilogram (mg/kg) for TPHg and 1 .2 mg/kg for benzene. These
detections were located in samples around the USTs at 30 ft and 40 ft, respectively. The
investigation concluded that hydrocarbon-impacted soil was limited to the proximity of the UST
complex.
548 Work Plan for Well Destruction.doc SECOR International Incorporated
