This work plan was prepared in response to your letter dated
June 12, 2006 (Attachment A). The purpose of this work plan is to present the plan for
conducting the required feasibility testing . The results of this test will be used to determine
if SVE/AS is an .appropriate remedial alternative for ARCO Service Station 548 .
This work plan contains a site description, a summary of previous site assessments, a
summary of known sensitive receptors in the area , a description of the current status of the
dissolved-phase plumes , and details the scope of work proposed for the feasibility testing .
SITE DESCRIPTION
The site is located at the southwest corner of West Hammer Lane and Brentwood Drive in
the City of Stockton , California (Figure 1 ). The site was formerly operated as an ARCO
Service Station and AM/PM mini-mart. The site currently operates as a Valero gasoline
service station and mini-mart. Current site facilities include four underground storage tanks
(USTs); two pump islands , associated product lines and dispensers , and a convenience
store.
PREVIOUS ASSESSMENTS
Site Investigations began in October 1990 with five soil borings (B- 1 through B-5) located
around the USTs and product lines. Soil samples were collected and analyzed for
petroleum hydrocarbons including total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPHg) and
benzene. Hydrocarbons were detected in six of the 18 samples collected . The highest
concentrations detected were 1 ,400 milligram per kilogram (mg/kg) for TPHg and 1 .2 mg/kg
for benzene. These detections were located in samples around the USTs at 30 feet and
