U
Ms. Lori Duncan Page 4 of 5
San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department
August 27, 2004
All down-hole drilling and sampling equipment will be thoroughly decontaminated between
drilling locations by steam cleaning and/or washing in a nonphosphate detergent cleaning solution.
Soil cuttings and wastewater generated during the drilling activities will be placed in labeled 55-
gallon Department of Transportation (DOT)-approved steel drums and stored on site, pending
disposal. All drummed soil cuttings will be sampled and analyzed for GRO by EPA method
8015B (preparation EPA Method 5030) and BTEX by EPA Method 8260B (preparation EPA
Method 5030), and total lead by EPA Method 6000/7000 series.
Monitoring Well Installation
Shallow Well
One shallow groundwater monitoring well will be constructed in its respective borehole using 2-
inch inside-diameter (IIID), Schedule 40, flush-threaded polyvinyl chloride (PVC) well casing.
Fifteen feet of 0.020-inch machine-slotted well screen will be set from approximately 5 feet above ,
to 10 feet below first encountered groundwater. A Monterey No. 3 silica sand filter pack will be
installed from the bottom of the boring to 2 feet above the well screen. A 3-foot bentonite
transition seal will be placed above the sand pack, and neat cement will be used to seal the
remaining annular space to the surface. Surface completion will consist of a traffic-rated, flush-
mounted well box. A locking well cap will be placed on the top of each casing. The wells will be
completed under the direction of a URS geologist, and well completion details will be presented
on boring logs.
Deep Well
One-shaUew groundwater monitoring well will be constructed in its respective borehole using 2-
inch inside-diameter (ID), Schedule 40, flush-threaded polyvinyl chloride (PVC) welt casing. Five
feet of 0.020-inch machine-slotted well screen will be set from approximately 90 to 95 feet bgs. A
Monterey No. 3 silica sand filter pack will be installed from the bottom of the boring to 2 feet
above the well screen. A 3-foot bentonite transition seal will be placed above the sand pack, and
neat cement will be used to seal the remaining annular space to the surface. Surface completion
will consist of a traffic-rated, flush-mounted well box. A locking well cap will be placed on the top
of each casing. The wells will be completed under the direction of a URS geologist, and well
completion details will be presented on boring logs.
I
Groundwater Monitoring Well Development, Sampling, and Surveying
The groundwater monitoring wells will be developed by rigorously surging over the length of their
respective screen intervals and by pumping approximately 10 casing volumes of water from each
well. The pH, temperature, conductivity, and turbidity of the development water will be measured
and recorded periodically during the development process.
I
I
K:\Wprocess\J5 BP ARCO\00548\2004 well instalIMP 04.dm
