Mr Kyle Christie Project 0805-140 03
• July 23, 1996
Page 6
2.2 Well Abandonment Activities
• Contract a licensed well driller to dell out monitoring well MW-3 using
10-inch-diameter augers The well will be drilled out to an approximate depth of
65 feet bgs, and the well casing filter pack, and surface seal will be removed The
former well location will be grouted to ground surface using neat cement
2.3 Well Installation Activities
• Once the old tank cavity has been backfilled, EMCON will observe a licensed well
driller drill one 10-inch-diameter soil bonng in the old tank cavity The proposed
boring location is shown on Figure 2 The boring will be drilled to groundwater
(approximately 40 feet bgs) Based on field screening data (using a PID) of soil
samples, EMCON will construct a dual completion 2-inch-diameter vapor
extraction well (VW-5) The dual completion will consist of installing two
2-inch-diameter casings m the borehole The lower portion of the well is
expected to be screened from approximately 22 to 42 feet bgs using 0 10 slotted
screen The upper portion of the well is expected to be screened from
• approximately 4 to 19 feet bgs using 0 10 slotted screen The purpose of the
boring is to assess the vertical extent of hydrocarbons below the former USTs,
and the dual completion we is o prove a sod vapor extraction coverage m the
old tank cavity and below the cavity
• Undisturbed soil samples will be collected from the boring located in the former
tank cavity for classification and laboratory analyses at 5-foot intervals, or at soli
changes, from the ground surface to the total depth of the boring
• Dill cuttings will be stored on site and placed on and covered with visqueen
Four soil samples will be collected from the drill cuttings to be composited into
one sample at the laboratory for evaluation of disposal options
• A minimum of two soil samples from the boring and the composite sample from
the drill cuttings will be submitted to a state-certified analytical laboratory The
samples will be analyzed for TPHG and BTEX by modified USEPA Methods
8015 and 8020, respectively In addition, the samples collected from the drill
cuttings will be analyzed for total lead using USEPA Method 7410 and for
corroslvity, ignitability, and reactivity
SAON TJM80508051400 3DS-95 pis 1
