Emcon Associates (Emcon) of Sacramento, California, was
• contracted by ARCO to conduct the field work at the site: Emcon subsequently forwarded
their field notes and the laboratory reports to RESNA. Field work included measuring
depths to water and collecting groundwater samples for subjective and laboratory analyses.
RESNA used these data to evaluate the direction and gradient of ground-water flow
beneath the site. The locations of the monitoring wells are shown on Plate 2.
•
BACKGROUND
RESNA (formerly Applied GeoSystems) conducted a Preliminary Tank Replacement,
Assessment investigation in Octob_er 1990 jto evaluate soil for the presence of hydrocarbons
(Applied GeoSystems, Inc., December 18, 1990, Report No. 30004-2). During this
investigation Ave soil borings(B-1 through B-5) were drilled at the site. Results of analyses
;indicated residual hydrocarbons''were present in soil near the tank cavity.
- -
InlOctober 1.991, RESNA conducted an investigation that included drilling nine soil borings
• and constructing four groundwater iYionitaring well's (MW-1 through MW-4)and three
,vapor-extraction wells and analyzing:soil—and ground-water samples for hydrocarbons.
Residual hydrocarbons were analytipal ly,_-identified7in soil samples collected from borings
near the tank cavity and dispenser islands. The gr6und=water'surface beneath the site at the
time of measurement was approximately 49 feet below grade,. The wellhead elevations of
the monitoring wells at the site were surveyed by Tom 0. Morrow, Inc. (licensed land
surveyors) of Sacramento, California. The,ground-water fl6w7direction was south of 6k7
aa21ccar
3OW4-6
•
