Hammer Lane
r.
Stockton, California 95209
Dear Ms. Duncan:
URS Corporation Americas (URS), on behalf of Atlantic Richfield Company (ARCO - a BP affiliated
company) has prepared this report to document monitoring well installation activities conducted at the
former ARCO Station No. 548 located at 1612 W. Hammer Lane in Stockton, California (site) (Figure
1). One shallow monitoring well and one deep monitoring well were installed to assess the lateral and
` vertical extent of petroleum-impacted groundwater. This investigation was conducted in response to the
San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department (SJCEHD) letter dated June 21, 2004
(Attachment A), which requests an investigation of the vertical extent of impacted groundwater and the
installation of monitoring wells that will intercept first groundwater. The fieldwork was performed as
described in the Workplan for Additional Assessment dated August 27, 2004, which was approved by
SJCEHD in a letter dated October 4, 2004 (Attachment A). The SJCEHD boring permits and a City of
Stockton encroachment permit are included in Attachment A.
SITE BACKGROUND
The site is Iocated at the southwest corner of the intersection of W. Hammer Lane and Brentwood Drive
in Stockton, California (Figures. I and 2). The site formerly operated as an ARCO service station.
Currently, the site is operating as a Valero retail gasoline station. Current site structures include four
underground storage tanks (USTs), two pump islands, and a convenience store.
' Site investigations have been ongoing since October 1990. A total of six groundwater monitoring wells
(MW-1 through MW-6), six soil vapor extraction (SVE) wells (VW-1 through VW-5S and VW-51)),
and three air sparge (AS) wells (AS-1, AS-2, and AS-3) are installed at the site. Well locations are
! shown in Figure 2. The investigations indicate that hydrocarbon-impacted soil is limited to the
proximity of the UST complex. In February 1998, four gasoline USTs of various capacities and their
associated piping were removed and replaced.
i
URS Corporation
Crown Corporate Center
2870 Gateway Oaks Drive,Suite 300
Sacramento,CA 95833
Tel:916.679.2000
Fax:916.679.2900 KAWprocessV5 BP ARCM054812004 well instalAAdd Site Assess Rpt 04.doc
