This letter also follows-up and confirms our telephone conversation
that took place on July 6, 1995.
Upon review of the report,-you will note that petroleum hydrocarbons, were detected in six
of the monitoring wells, with the highest benzene concentrations(360 ug/1) reported in
well MW-2. Plans for the upcoming quarter Include continuing groundwater monitoring. '
Confirming our July 6, 1995 telephone conversation, I understand that the extent of the
petroleum hydrocarbon release has been adequately defined. I also understand that the
used-oil UST area warrants a"no further action" priority, were it not for the suspected
presence of MTBE (a gasoline octane enhancer), previously reported by the analytical
laboratory.
Finally, you requested that I forward information regarding the fate and transport of the
petroleum hydrocarbons detected in the groundwater at this site. To that end, I have
attached a copy of a memorandum summarizing the affects of leaking underground fuel
tanks upon water supply wells in Region 5 (Central Valley Regional Water Quality
Control Board). I have also attached calculations for the solution to an analytical
transport and fate model'.(By including.the calculations with the memorandum, I am
attempting to show how this site"fits" into the broader context of all of the sites in the
Central Valley, including those rare circumstances where the actual impairment of
beneficial use of shallow groundwater has resulted from a UST release:
f - _
' L'1_V-29SE3-
