_-IN
Vicki McCartney
i
From: Vicki McCartney
Sent: Friday, January 24, 2003 4:16 PM
To: 'david.herzog@shawgrp.com'
Subject: 3250 W. Hammer Lane.in Stockton
David,
In response to your telephone call on January 22, 2003, 1 did review the Additional Assessment and Interim Remediation
Report submitted by Shaw Environmental and Infrastructure, Inc. on November 8, 2002 for the site at 3250 West Hammer
Lane in Stockton. After reviewing the report and data, I am not certain that the vertical and lateral extents of soil and
groundwater contamination have been defined for this site. Can you pleaseltell me if a site conceptual model has been
submitted for this location? Will you please check the methods used to analyze the soil-vapor samples? The methods
listed on page 6 of the report are EPA Method 8020 for BTEX, and EPA Method 8260B for the five oxygenates. These are
not methods for air samples.
While reviewing the report I found the following corrections:
• Change the TAME soil results to a range of 0.005 to 0.042 mg/kg from well borings MW-4 and MW-5. The range was
reported as 0.66 to 4.5 mg/kg on page 7.
• The groundwater samples were collected from MW-4 and MW-5 on July 29, 2002, not July 23, 2002, as indicated on
page 7.
• The results for MTBE, TAME, and TBA are reversed between the sample IDs System Effluent and Tank in Table 3.
• The sample identification for the last sample in Table 4 is MW-1-H, not MW-1-F.
I also reviewed the report for the fourth quarter 2002 groundwater monitoring event. This report is missing Table 1, Figure
1, and Figure 2. Please provide this information.
Lastly, data have not been submitted to GeoTracker since the first quarter groundwater monitoring event for 2002. The
data must be entered into GeoTracker as soon as possible.
I plan to review previous reports and data and discuss this site with Nuel Henderson, Registered Geologist, in,our office.
At that time I may need additional information before considering a Corrective Action Plan.
Please let me know when i will receive the requested information and do not hesitate to call me at the number;fisted below
if you have any questions.
Vicki McCartney, EHS
304 E. Weber Avenue
Stockton, CA 95202-2708
Phone (209) 468-3456
Fax (209) 468-3433
vmccartney@sjcehd.com
i
