Based upon the results of
these subsurface investigations, the lateral and vertical extent of soil and groundwater contamination
remains undefined. Therefore, additional soil and groundwater investigation on and off-site is warranted.
Grab groundwater sample results from borings GP-1 through GP-5 done in August of 2000 show methyl
tertiary butyl ether(MtBE)at concentrations as high as 47,000 parts per billion(ppb). Quarterly sampling
results from the past year show MtBE steadily increasing in MW-1-as high as 40,000 ppb indicating the
need for interim remedial action and control of the MtBE plume at this site.
A work plan to define the vertical and lateral extent of soil and groundwater contamination and interim
remedial alternatives to control the off-site migration of MtBE should be submitted to PHS/EHD by
December 17,2001. Please contact Sam Savig,EHS at(209)468-3453 if you have questions regarding
this letter.
Donna Heran,REHS,Director
Environmental Health Division
Sam Savig,EHS =Margareteagorio,REHS
LOP/Site Mitigation Unit IV Supervisor LOP/Unit IV
cc: Marty Hartzell-CVRWQCB
Kathleen Waldo-IT Corperation
i
i
I
i
I
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
