Soil samples collected
and analyzed during this work evidence contamination. The potential for groundwater
contamination is significant. Further investigation of the lateral and vertical extent of
contamination in soil and groundwater at this will be necessary.
Further investigation should include advancing borings to a depth necessary(two
consecutive five foot intervals of no detectable contamination), near the tank area in order
to evaluate the vertical extent of contamination. Soil samples should be obtained at every
five foot interval and at every significant lithological change in the soil. PHS/EHD
recommends the cone penetrometry test boring method to obtain relevant lithological and
hydrological data and to evaluate contaminant migration potential prior to the placement
of MWs at this site.
Groundwater sample(s) should also be collected and analyzed for contaminants. If
contaminated groundwater is evidenced, Monitoring Wells (MWs) should be installed to
establish repeatable groundwater sampling points and to determine the groundwater
gradient.
Conduct a survey of domestic, municipal, agricultural, industrial and any other wells
within a 2,000-foot radius of this site. Contact the Department of Water Resources,
municipal water suppliers and nearby industries for well information. In addition,
perform a physical search of the area to identify any wells. Show the locations of all
wells on a map with appropriate scale showing the site and clearly marked 2000-foot
radius. Also perform a conduit survey. Submit any known construction details of the
wells (if available) and evaluate the influence of well pumping with respect to the
potential migration of the contamination from this site.
Soil and groundwater samples should be analyzed for TPHg and TPHd by EPA Method
8015M, BTEX by EPA Method 8020, Oxygenates, EDB, 1,2 DCA, methanol and ethanol
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
