The work plan objectives should include:
• Acquiring sufficient data to evaluate the potential cost effectiveness of insitu oxidation
(total cost estimate compared to other remedial methods) in addition to the technical
effectiveness of ozone remediation;
• Identifying adverse effects to water quality by ozone injection, and
• Projecting the extent of the adverse effects, if applicable, and the time required to restore
the aquifer to background levels.
If results from the laboratory bench-scale test are favorable, a work plan for a field pilot study
will be necessary prior to installing an ozone system at your site.
The EHD has reviewed the total depths reported for the six monitoring wells on January 28, 2008,
and has concluded that MW-6, screened between 57.5 and 62.5 feet below surface grade (bsg),
must be redeveloped. The total depth reported for MW-6 was 60.07 feet bsg, indicating that
approximately two-and-a-half feet of the five-foot screen may have been "silted in". Also,MW-2
must be redeveloped since several feet of the fifteen-foot screen appear to be "silted in". Please
develop these wells prior to the next sampling event.
EHD does not have a current sensitive receptor survey report that includes surface water, hospital,
and school locations, as well as domestic, municipal, industrial and other wells within a 2,000-
foot radius of this site. Contact the Department of Water Resources, municipal water suppliers,
the EHD, and nearby industries for well information. If appropriate, perform a physical search of
the area to identify all wells. Show the location of all water supply wells, schools, etc. on a map,
relative to the location of the subject site. Submit any known construction details of the wells,
and identify all sources of information in the report. Submit this report to EHD by September 25,
2008.
If you have any questions, please contact Vicki McCartney, Senior Registered Environmental
Health Specialist,by telephone at(209)468-9852 or by email at vniccartney@,sicelid.com.
Sincerely,
I
Victoria L.
