Ms.Vicki McCartney,SJCEHD August 29,2008
Work Plan for Bench-Scale Test and Injection Well Installation Project No.2046-3250-01
Parkinson's I-5 ARCO Service Station,Stockton,California
Page 6
testing, the extent of the effects and the time required to reverse the effects (via attenuation) will
be estimated during the bench-scale testing.
To facilitate bench-scale testing, the collection of soil and groundwater samples is required.
Since a drilling event will be required to obtain the required soil samples for a bench-scale test, it
will be most cost-effective to use this drilling event to also install two 03 injection wells for use
during the pilot-scale phase of work. Therefore, Stratus proposes to advance two soil borings
and install dedicated 03 injection wells within the resultant boreholes (IW-1 and IW-2; Figure 2).
The locations of the proposed wells were selected to target 03 injection in the areas east of the
fuel-dispensers (MTBE and TBA plumes) and south of the USTs (MTBE plume). In addition,
the locations of the proposed injection points are strategically located to allow for the use of
existing monitoring wells as observation wells during the pilot-scale testing. A work plan
detailing the pilot-scale testing procedures and protocols will be prepared and submitted to
SJCEHD under separate cover, once the bench-scale testing is complete. Details associated with
bench-scale testing and soil boring/well installations are discussed in the subsequent sections.
PROPOSED SCOPE OF WORK
The proposed scope of work has been subdivided into four general tasks, as outlined below. All
work will be conducted under the direct supervision of a State of California Professional
Geologist or Professional Engineer, and will be conducted in accordance with standards
established by the Tri-Regional Board Staff Recommendations of Preliminary Investigation and
Evaluation of Underground Tank Sites (RWQCB, April 2004). A California-licensed C-57
drilling contractor will perform all drilling and well construction activities. Stratus' Field
Practices and Procedures that will be utilized during the investigation are included in
Appendix A.
Task 1: Pre-Field Activities
Following receipt of SJCEHD's concurrence with the activities proposed in this work plan, the
following activities will be completed:
■ Obtain well installation permits from SJCEHD. -
■ Retain and schedule a licensed C-57 drilling contactor.
■ Update the health and safety plan for the site.
■ Physically mark the drilling locations, and contract a private utility locating company and
Underground Service Alert to locate underground utilities in the vicinity of the work site.
■ Notify the SJCEHD and the property owner of the scheduled field activities.
K:\Parkinsons Hammer 1-5 Arco\Work Plans\Work Plan for Ozone Bench Scale Test.doc
