We are also planning to conduct additional investigations to further
delineate the extent of the contamination, which it appears may have gone beyond the boundaries of the site. This
will require that we obtain the approval of nearby property owners to enter their properties. We have already
discussed with you, the problems we are having in this matter and wish to implement an interim measure to
remove some of the contamination from monitoring well MW-5(Figure 1)during this period as described below.
During the quarterly sampling process, several gallons of water are removed from all the monitoring wells and
stored in 55-gallon steel drums. We then have a vacuum truck come to the site and pump the water out of the
drums. At the time of this water removal,we propose to have the vacuum truck insert a clean section of PVC
tubing which is attached to the vacuum hose into well MW-5 and pump the groundwater out of the well for a time
period of approximately 2 hours.
Groundwater samples will be collected before pumping begins and after the pumping is finished, and analyzed for
total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline(TPHG)and benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene and total xylenes(BTEX).
The water will be collected and transported by a properly licensed waste hauler and recycled at a local refinery.
Results of the TPHG/BTEX analysis and copies of the transport manifest will be provided in our quarterly
groundwater monitoring reports. The next groundwater sampling will be conducted during the second or third
week of December 1991 and the drums and monitoring well MW-5 are scheduled to be pumped out during the
first or second week of January 1992.
If you have any questions regarding this matter, please call.
Sincerely,
RESNA Industries,Inc.
1.
Richard Garlow, R.E.A. 1365
Senior Project Geologist
RG/sw
ow Jim Rubin,RESNA Industries, Inc.
Jack Griffith,Quik Stop Markets
