Quik Stop Markets, Inc. February 11, 1992
Project No. 3-49132-32 Page 4
collected from each well following the procedures outlined in our groundwater
sampling protocol (Appendix A). Approximately four well-casing volumes of
groundwater were removed from each well before sampling. Groundwater removed
from the wells and equipment rinse water were placed in Department of Transportation
approved drums and left on-site pending the laboratory analytical results.
Groundwater Elevations
Depth to groundwater measurements were obtained on December 18, 1991 prior to
sampling. They ranged from 15.46 to 15.90 feet below the surface and are included
with the well elevations in Table 1. Groundwater elevations calculated from these
measurements ranged from 12.04 to 12.29 feet below mean sea level (MSL) based on
available survey data. A groundwater elevation contour map generated from these
elevations is presented as Figure 3.
Laboratory Analyses
The groundwater samples were analyzed at Applied Analytical for the presence of
TPHG and BTEX. Due to the absence of detectable fecal coliform in the groundwater
samples from the site for the past two quarters, the SJCPHS has reduced required fecal
coliform testing frequently to semi-annual. A summary of the analytical results from
current and past well samplings is presented in Table 1. Laboratory analyses did not
detect any TPHG or BTEX in samples from monitoring wells MW-1R, MW-2, MW-3,
or NIW-4 while TPHG and BTEX constituents were detected in the sample from MW-5.
The laboratory analytical reports are attached in Appendix B. The results of the
December 1991 sample analyses are as follows:
Ethyl Total
Sample Sample TPHG Benzene Toluene Benzene Xylenes
Number Date (ppb) (ppb) (ppb) ( b) (ppb)
- MW-IR 12/18/91 <0.5 <0.5 <0.5 <0.5 <50
MW-2 12/18/91 <0.5 <0.5 <0.5 <0.5 <50
MW-3 12/18/91 <0.5 <0.5 <0.5 <0.5 <50
MW-4 12/18/91 <0.5 <0.5 <0.5 <0.5 <50
MW-5 12/18/91 1,200 1.3 1.7 0.6 <50
TPHG Total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline
ppb Parts per billion(pg/L)
<0.5 Not detected at or above listed practical quandtation limit for the meth-4
Discussion
Groundwater in the monitoring wells at the site was measured at depths ranging from
-- - -15.45-to 15.90 feet below the existing ground surface.
