3.0 FIELD INVESTIGATIONS
1 Site Description
The subject site is located on West Hammer Lane in Stockton, California (Figure 1). The site is
currently operating as a retail gasoline station and mini market. The approximate locations of the
existing onsite gasoline USTs and other pertinent site features are shown on Figure 2
.2 Soil Borings
I
ATC retained the services of Fisch Environmental of Valley Springs, California to advance six soil
borings. The soil, boring investigation was performed on June 27, 2001. Underground Services Alert
(USA) was notified of the proposed drilling activities to ensure that no utility lines were located within
the immediate vicinity of the soil borings, and Cruz Brothers Sub-Surface Locators, Inc. of
Sacramento, California provided a subsurface survey of utility lines and other buried objects in and
borehole locations. Prior to performing the drilling activities, ATC obtained permits from'
around the bar p g
San Joaquin County and access agreements for adjacent properties. Copies of the approved San
Joaquin County Public Health Services Application for Well/Pump Permits are included in Appendix
A. Copies of the approved Site Access Agreements from Taco Bell and Burger King Property owners
are included as Appendix B.
Depth discrete groundwater samples were collected from the six soil borings, at four on-site
and two
off-site (Taco Bell and Burger King) locations, in order to confirm the concentrations of petroleum
hydrocarbons in shallow and deep groundwater at and near the site. Five of the boring locations (SHP-
tI through SHP-5) were within three feet of the existing groundwater monitoring wells MW-2, MW-3,
and MW-5 located on-site, and MW-6, and MW-7, located at the adjacent Taco Bell property. One soil
boring (SHP-6) was located to the east of the soil boring SB3, in the parking lot of the Burger King fast
food restaurant. The soil borings were advanced to a total depth of approximately 14 feet to 24 feet
bgs. Groundwater was encountered at depths ranging from approximately 8.6 to 15 feet bgs in the local
upper aquifer and 23.5 feet in the local lower aquifer. The soil boring locations are shown on Figure
2.
1 otv_,i) MNTOP4)S 1srREPO RTM.IMIKti 0
