I
G
f
45 East Harding
Page 3
Regarding the confirmed detection of MTBE in the MW9, which has been destroyed, since the
contaminant has not been detected in any other samples from the surrounding wells, it is unlikely
that the MTBE originated from an off site source. During the destruction of VW3, a soil sample
was collected at approximately 35 feet bgs and which will undergo analysis including MTBE,
though these results may not provide sufficient conclusive information.
Based on PHS/EHD's evaluation of information which is available, it is unlikely that active
1
remediation will be necessary. However, additional monitoring wells and groundwater sampling
and monitoring will be required, until sufficient and reliable information is available to suggest that
the groundwater plume has remediated to the cleanup levels as referenced in the Underground
Storage Tank Regulations, Title 23, Division 3, Chapter 16, Article 11 and the remaining soil
contamination does not pose a significant threat to groundwater quality..
PHS/EHD suggests that you continue revision of the closure request report since at such time in
ii the future that information warrants closure, you will be directed to submit a closure report.
Please submit a work plan to install sufficient groundwater monitoring wells to evaluate
groundwater quality trends. PHS/EHD will continue to work with you and the developers of the
site towards the construction goals.
If you have any questions or wish to schedule a meeting, please contact me at (209) 468-0337.
Donna Heran, Director REHS
Environmental Health Division
a
, La
Mary Meays, Senior REHS Mar9are 9ono, REHS
Site Mitigation Unit Supervisor
MM\45HARDING\A
I cc: Elizabeth Thayer, CVRWQCB
f cc: Carolyn Lawrence
cc: Steve Pulcheon, Taco Bell
cc: Jeff Moore, Greenwood and Moore
i
1
s
i
i
i
