45 East Harding Chronology DRAFT
Page 2
1988
2/24/88 Four fiberglass tanks were removed: 3 gasoline 10,000 gallon tanks and 1
waste oil 550 gallon tank. Strong gasoline odors from the soil were
observed at 19.0 feet below ground surface (bgs). No samples were
collected until the gasoline tank pit was excavated to a greater depth. A soil
sample was collected from beneath the waste oil tank. The following results
were obtained from laboratory analysis:
Sample ID/Depth TPH TPH Benzene- PCB
(lower boiling) (higher boiling) Toluene-Xylene
(total)
WO/9 feet 10 ppm 26 ppm ND? ND?
2/26/88 Two soil samples were collected from the gasoline tank pit one from beneath
tank #1 and one sample composited from beneath tank #2 and #3 for limited
analysis. Approximately 418 cubic yards were stockpiled on site.
Correspondence from Chevron dated June 20, 1988, indicated that soil
samples were collected from 20-22 feet bgs but that the soil in the tank pit
was not excavated to 25 feet. The following results were obtained from
Sequoia laboratory analysis on March 19, 1988 of the samples collected on
February 26, 1999 under PHS/EHD inspection:
Sample ID@Depth TPH TPH Benzene Toluene Xylene Organic
lower boiling higher boiling Lead
Tank #1/AOP 340 ppm 55 ppm <.1 28 26 <.05
@ 20-22'
Tank #2-3/B-C 490 ppm NA NA NA NA NA
Composite@ 20-22'
Note: All results in ppm (mg/kg). NA - Not Analyzed.
(Two additional sample detections from Tank #1: 1200 ppb ethylbenzene and 1,800 ppb
toluene using 8010/8020)
9/30/88 Contaminated soil was excavated to 20 feet bgs pursuant to Chevron
correspondence dated 10/31/88 which indicated that the excavation's maximum
depth was 20 feet due to limitations of the equipment on site. Soil samples were
collected this date without PHS/EHD inspection.
