V
1 . INTRODUCTION
Former Chevron Service Station (SS) 9-1918 in located on the
northwest corner of the intersection of East Harding Way and in
Dorado Street In Stockton, California (Figure 1 ). Chevron SS
9-1910 actively dispensed gasoline products and serviced auto-
mobiles at thin site betvaon 1953 and 1908. The original station
was remodeled, and fiberglana storago tanks vera installed, in
1984. The station was deactivated and damollGhod in early 198e;
the underground otorago tanks were excavated and removed from the
sato on 24 February. Soil camPlos collected from the tank oxca-
vdtlon pit and the stockpiled excavated coil wore analyzed and
contained up to 490 ppm lOw-boiling-paint hydrocarbons. The 15-
r foot-deep tank excavation pit was backfilled with clean pea
gravel.
A coil vapor contaminant assessment (SVCA) was conducted on 17
November 1907. The SYCA consisted of driving a 5/8-Inch diameter
stool probe into the soil
to depths of up to 15 feet around the
site, concentrated In the tank and Pump Island areas. The SVCA
indicated significant concentrations of Petroleum hydrocarbons in
• the coil vapor, with 'he apparent highest concentrations In the
i' underground storage tank area. The relatively high concentra-
tions of petroleum hydrocarbons Coll vapor lndicate-d a potential
for groundwater contamination at the site. The SVCA data were
used to determine the best locations for placement of groundwater
moaltoring veils.
Six groundwater monitoring veils were Installed on the site
• during the week of 7 November 1988.
Soil samples collected from
tvO Of the well boreholes during drilling vore analyzed; they
contained concentrations of total petroleum hydrocarbons (TP10 up
to-3,3013-
Two additional groundwater monitorin
9 w011s were Installed on the
site during the week of 23 January 1999.
C52/91918/text
IN
