Soil samples will be delivered, under chain of custody,to a laboratory certified by the California
Department of Health Services(DHS) for hazardous materials analyses. The samples will be
analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons by Db
HS-modified the 8Q Method 8015 and for ben-
zene,toluene,xylenes,and ethytbenzene(BTXE) y
A detailed description of borehole drilling and soil sampling procedures is contained in Appen-
dix A,EA's Standard Protocols for well drilling, completion, development, and sampling.
4,3 GROUNDWATER MONITORING WELL INSTALLATION,DEVELOPMENT,
AND SAMPLING
The soil boring will be completed as a groundwater monitoring well. The well will be construct-
ed of 4-inch diameter, Schedule 40 PVC flush-threaded casing and 10-15 feet of slotted PVC
screen. 710 prevent any petroleum hydrocarbons that are present in the soil from moving down
into the saturated zone, the well screen will not extend more than 1 foot above the water table if
unconfined the s al conditions are enell s tered. if confined conditions are encountered the well screen
e. Details of
will be installed in the top 10 feet of the confined satura and A2(Appendix A)a proposed well
ted zon
construction for both alternatives are shown in Figures
The annular space around the screen wilt be filled with a sand pack and;the well will be sealed t:,
the surface with a cement-Bentonite grout in accordance with DWR monitoring well eanstruc-
_ tion standards. It
ped, located relative to the site perimeters, and surveyed(see
The well will be properly develo
Appendix A for details).
Groundwater samples will be collected, and the water will be analyzed for TPH and BTEX,
using EPA Methods 8015 and 8020,by a California DHS-certified laboratory.
The details of well purging, sampling, and sample handling are in the(EA's) standard protocol
(Appendix A), which follows Tri-Regional Recommendations for investigation of UST sites
(August 1990).
t
8
70191419A.1
