May 19, 1997 Mr Brett Hunter Chevron Products Company P 0 Box 6004 San Ramon, California 94583 Subject: Well Destruction and Abandonment at former Chevron Service Station No.,9-191$,45 East Harding Way, Stockton, California Mr Hunter At the request of Chevron Products Co (Chevron), Gettler-Ryan (GR) abandoned seven groundw Mon,ttprui- wells at the subject site (Figure 1) Due to encroachment permit restrictions, this work was done in two phaW. On-site wells MW-3 and MW-11 were drilled out and on-site wells MW-7 and MW-10 were pressure grouted on April 15 and 16, 1997 under San Joaquin County Public Health Services (SJCPHS) pern-at#012151 Off-site well MW-13 was drilled out and off-site wells MW-12 and MW-14 were pressure grouted on May 10, 1997 under SJCPHS permit#012435 and City of Stockton encroachment permit#64352 All well destruction and abandonment activities were performed by Bay Area Exploration Inc (C57-522125) Copies of the well abandonment and encroachment permits arc, attached Well identifications, well depths, and casing diameters are summarized in the attavhed Table 1 Locations of the former wells are shown on the attached Site PIan (Figure 2) Two 2-inch diameter and one 4-inch diameter wells(MW-3, MW-11, and MW-13) were destroyed by drillmg out the well seal using hollow-stem augers, pulling the well casing trom the boring, and then reaming the boring to remove the remaining sandpack and annular fill material Each boring was then backfilled with nest cement to ground surtace using a trenue and pump Three 2-mch diameter and one 4-inch diameter wells (MW 7,..MW-10, i MW-12, and MW-14) were abandoned by pressure grouting GR Field Methods and Procedures are s;yllwhed Borings MW-12, MW-13, and MW-14, located in El Dorado Street, were capped with concppte.�44s `MIaq Meays (SJCPHS) was present on April 15 and May 10, and Mr Harlen Knoll (SJCPHS) was present on April 16, 1°997, to observe the well destruction and abandonment activities Drill cuttings were stockpiled at the site pending receipt of analytical data Ow dis"! chntWerizaUqu Nituple was collected from the stockpiled cuttings on April 16, 1997 This stockpilewa ,r04%PVW1,(W t the! oil April 23, 1997, by Chevron's contractor Integrated Wastestream Management (IWM) for d3spmal at the Blip landfill tit Livermore, California One disposal characterization sample was collected froom tho 9t6ckpflWc"j8 on May 10, 1997 IWM removed this stockpile on May 16, 1997, for disposal at the 9FI 1611 inUverware Appioxtinately 50 gallons of water expelled trom the wells and bonngs during placement of the meat cenfirnt owmay 10, 1997,,wu transported to McKittrick Waste Management by IWM Copies of the analytical'rtports and chaiii> f-cttstody are attached 634902-1 6747 Sierra Court , Suite J Dublin , California 94568 ( 510 ) 551 - 7555
