Mr. Abe Northrup 0 - 2 - Ok 7 February 2014
Bagging Plant Soil Sampling
With Central Valley Water Board staff concurrence, in August 2013 Koppel Stockton removed
trees in the eastern area of the former bagging plant and applied lime and gypsum with a deep
ripper to the subsoil. Trees will be replanted this spring.
As described in the Annual Report, Koppel Stockton proposes to obtain soil samples in the
amended area of the bagging plant prior to replanting. Each of five hand-augered soil borings
will provide 3 soil samples from 2 feet invervals extending from the surface to 6 feet below
ground surface. The two-foot samples will be homogenized to provide a single composited
sample in each interval. Samples will be analyzed for nitrate, ammonium, pH, electrical
conductivity, buffering pH, base saturation, plant-available phosphorous, total organic carbon,
salinity, zinc, manganese, iron, copper, boron, and exchangeable aluminum. Central Valley
Water Board staff concur with the bagging plant soil sampling proposal.
Koppel Stockton will provide summaries of the well destructions, soil sampling, and tree
replacements in the 2014 Annual Report, which is due by 1 November 2014.
