• 41
KOPPEL STOCKTON TERMINAL
Monitoring Well Installation Work Plan
Addendum
The Koppel Stockton Terminal (Koppel) is a former dry fertilizer warehouse. The site is
located in Stockton west of Ventura Avenue, between the extensions of Hazelton Avenue
and Sonora Street,approximately 1 mile west-southwest of the I-5/Highway 4 interchange,
next to the Port of Stockton,California. The site layout of the Koppel Stockton Terminal is
presented on Figure 1.
CH2M HILL is submitting this Monitoring Well Installation Work Plan Addendum for the
installation of two monitoring wells(KP-11S and KP-12S) at or north of the site. This report
is an addendum to the Monitoring Well Installation Work Plan (CH2M HILL,2004),which
proposed installation of well KP-10S and was submitted in November 2004.The Monitoring
Well Installation Work Plan was approved by the Regional Water Quality Control Board
(RWQCB) in December 2004.
This addendum identifies the proposed locations of monitoring wells KP-11S and KP-12S
and the rationale for installation of these wells. Following regulatory approval of this report,
these wells will be installed in June 2005, coincident with installation of monitoring well KP-
10S.The well drilling, well construction, and well development procedures presented in the
Monitoring Well Installation Work Plan will be followed during installation and development
of wells KP-11S and KP-12S.
Rationale for Well Installation
Monitoring wells KP-11S and KP-12S are proposed for installation at the locations presented
on Figure 1. Analytical and monitoring data recorded for these wells,in conjunction with
data recorded for other wells in the area, will be used to assess the groundwater flow
direction north of the Koppel Stockton Terminal and to assess whether the extent of the
nitrate plume at Koppel is adequately defined to the north.Wells KP-11S and KP-12S will be
screened at a depth interval of approximately 6 to 21 feet below ground surface.
The former Cal Farm Supply facility is located north of the Koppel Stockton Terminal.
Elevated concentrations of nitrate-nitrogen have been detected in groundwater collected
between 1997 and 1999 from Cal Farm Supply's southernmost monitoring well,MW-6.
Monitoring well MW-6 was inadvertently destroyed in 1999.Monitoring well KP-12S will
be installed near the former location of well MW-6 to assess the existing nitrate
concentrations in the seasonal ponding area north of Koppel.
References
CH2M HILL. 2004.Monitoring Well Installation Work Plan,Koppel Stockton Terminal.
November.
FDMWELLWP ADDENDUKDOC t
