Box 944212
Sacramento, California 94244-2120
Subject: Closure Report for Color Spot Facility, Lodi, California
6
Dear Mr. Giannopoulos:
This letter describes the results of ground-water sampling and chemical analysis conducted at the
farmer Calor Spot facility located at 5400 East Harney Lane, Lodi, California ("the Site").
5 Based on the results presented in this letter, Site closure is requested.
Results of Ground-Water Sampling
.. The purpose of this sampling event was to evaluate the presence of fuel hydrocarbons in ground
water collected from, monitoring well MW-1 (if measurable ground water was present), and
domestic well 19-B located to the west of well MW-l.
On August 10, 1995, Levine-Fricke, Inc. ("Levine-Fricke") personnel, with the assistance of an
underground utility locating service, located well MW-1 under several inches of parking lot
I" asphalt. An electronic water-level probe was lowered to the bottom of the well at 79 feet (well
log total depth 80 feet). The probe indicated that the well was dry.
'., In, order to comply with guidelines set forth in the draft letter from the State Water Resources
Control Board (SWRCB) to Mr. Kevin Adams of Color Spat dated April 28, 1995 ("the SWRCB
letter"), Levine-Fricke sampled domestic well designated 19-B, the well nearest to well MW-1.
+.. Valley Drilling was contracted to remove the pump from the well head on August 10, 1995. A
ground-water sample was then collected by a Levine-Fricke technician with a disposable Teflon
bailer. As specified in the SWRCB letter, the well was not purged prior to sampling, as it was
.• an operating well. Ms. Linda Turchett and Ms. Diane Hinson, of the San Joaquin County
Department of Environmental Health, were present to observe depth-to-water measurements and
ground-water sampling activities.
The samples were submitted to American Environmental Network ("AEN") of Pleasant Hill,
California, a state-certified laboratory, for analysis of total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline
(TPHg) using EPA Method 5030, TPH as diesel (TPHd) using EPA Method 3510, and benzene,
toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes (BTEX) using EPA Method 8020. Analytical results
indicated that no petroleum compounds were present above analytical detection limits.
