Box 388
Stockton, California 95201-0388
Subject: Work Plan to Abandon and Seal Gr-ound-Water Monitoring Well MW-1, Color Spot
Facility, Lodi, California
Dear Ms. Turchett:
At the request of Mr. Glenn Brooks of PacificC6rp Financial Services, UvineFricke,,Inc.
("Levine-Fricke") is providing this work plan to abandon and sealground-water monitoring well
MW-1, at the former Color Spot facility at 5400 East Harney Lane-, Lodi, California ("the Site").
The ground-water investigation at the former Color Spot facility, has been completed and, based on
the draft letter dated April 28, 1995 from the State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB) to
Mr. Kevin Adams of Color Spot, case closure has beenrequestedin a letter to Mr. James G
Giannopoulos of the SWRCB dated November 29, 1995 (copied to Ms. Linda Turchett of San
Joaquin County Public Health Service). Based upon this letter, ground-water monitoring well MW-
I will no longer be required at the Site. The well will be abandoned and sealed according to State
of California Department of Water Resources Bulletin 74-90, dated June 1991. The following
outlines the well abandonment procedures.
Well Abandonment and Sealing
An application for a well abandonment permit is included with this work plan. Based upon a
review of the boring log for MW-1 by the SJEHD, the well will be abandoned and sealed using the
hollow stem auger method.
Well abandonment and sealing using the hollow-stem auger method will involve drilling out the
well materials (polyvinyl chloride [PVC] casing, sand pack, bentonite, and cement grout) by
placing a drilling rod string, which fits inside the hollow-stem augers, down the PVC casing as a
guide, and then using 12-inch-diameter hollow-stem augers to drill out the well borehole. As the
drilling proceeds, fragments of well materials will be conveyed to the surface by the rotation of the
auger. Drilling will terminate when the bottom of the boring is encountered (approximately 80
1900 POWELL STREET, 12TH FLOOR, EMERYVILLE, CALIFORNIIA 94608-1811 phone (510) 652-4500 fax (510) 652-2246
San Francisco Bay Area , Sacramento- Irvine .
