ffl Rai
SG
Color Spot, Inc. D
October 10, 1589 (88168B) 3
i
r
The soils sui:rourding the UST fill port and its southwestern corner
f were visibly stained and smelled of diesel fuel. Field monitoring with a
photoionization detector also indicated elevated total volatile petroleum
hydrocarbon (TPH) concentrations. Soil samples collected after the UST was
"j
removed exhibited ethylbenzene, total xylene and TPH concentrations in excess
of applicable regulatory action levels. As a result of the soil contamination,
SGD was retained by Color Spot, Inc. to verify the existence of soil contam-
ination, delineate the lateral extent of contamination, and to evaluate adjacent
domestic ground water wells for contaminants Ossociated with diesel fuel.
METHODS OF INVESTIGATION
Ground Vater Sampling. The ground water .in three existing domestic
E_, and irrigation water wells was sampled. The wells were sampled to evaluate the
existence of ground water contamination and to obtain information on sources of
contamination. The well locations are illustrated or Plate 1 - Site Map.
Soil Vapor: Survey, A soil vapor survey, was conducted to evaluate
the subsurface for volatile hydrocarbon vapors. The "survey was performed at the
Color Spot Lodi facility on August 15, 1989. The survey was conducted under San
aF, Joaquin Local Health District Permit 89-1857. The 10 monitoring points are
j illustrated on Figure 2 - Soil Vapor Monitoring Locations
le the soil
data are found in Appendix C.' The
portable field gas chromatograph monitoring locations were ievaZuated ufiingoa
(CC) and a photoionization detector (PID) to
.confirm and delineate .the lateral extent of diesel fuel contamination.
Laboratory Analysis. The chilled water samples were delivered
a
accompanied by chain-of-custody documentation to the laboratory for analysis,
a
The 'graandTP r samples were analyzed for fuel fingerprint identification
includin benzene, ' toluene, ethylbenzene, tot
al xylenes {Bl EX 1 2-
,F dichloroethsne (EDC), ethylene dibromide EDg )' 1
anal {. ),.and total Lead.
