' \1
... Color Spot, Inc.
October 10, 1989 (881688)
wthe excavation and the clean soil pile should be sampled (a total of 6 to 8
samples) and chemically analyzed for TPH; and BTEX by EPA method 8260, modified
for diesel fuel to confirm that the excavation is adequately remediated and the
clean soil pile is in fact below regulatory action levels.
After the soils have been removed, the contaminated soils should be
spread on the surface for aeration. The soils should be turned periodically by
Color Spot personnel. After an aeration period of about three to five weeks,
the soils should be remediated enough to be placed back in the excavation. After
the soils are thought to be remediated, they should be sampled and analyzed for
TPH and BTEX to confirm that the remediation has been successfully completed.
w-. During the aeration period, the soil should be turned twice per week by Color
a
Spot personnel either manually with shovels or with a walk-behind rototiller.
' # In addition to the soils excavation, SGD recommends quarterly
t sarc'seling for two years of the existing wells (5338, 5298, and House No. 10) to
assure that ground water contamination does not exist 'beneath the site. if r
contaminant• levels increase in any wells, a ground water study will be required.
I
The recommended site remediation program, including the excavation
of the contaminated Eoil, aeration of the contaminated soil and the long-term
monitoring of ground water will have to be conducted under the supervision of
the San Joaquin Local Health District (LHD). The LHD will require submittal of
a technical work plan describing the proposal project for tLeir approval (which
will take four to six weeks) prior to project implementation.
We will be pleased to meet. with Color Spot staff and any concerned
regulatory agency to discuss the results and recommendations of this assessment
and are prepared to assist Color Spot in implementing the recommendations r.
{ contained herein. This report has been prepared for the exclusive use of Color '
fSpot, Inc, with specific application to the site assessment conducted at the
J subject property. The study was conducted in accordance with generally accepted
environmental protocols. No other warranty, express or implied, is made.
