w
B2
Color Spot, Inc.
October 10, 1989 (88168B)
i
_ Prior to initiating analyses of the sail vspors,
the GC-PID was
calibrated three times in sequence to a BTEX standard supplied by Scott Specialty
Gases (Scott Specialty Gases Project). The standard used at the facility had
an analytical accuracy of ±2 percent. The TVPH was referenced to an unleaded
gasoline standard supplied by Central Coast Analytical Services in San Luis
Obispo, California. Duplicate analyses were conducted periodically to check the
GC-PID for precision. A field blank was analyzed by drawing ambient air through
the sampling equipment to test for residual contamination in the sampling system.
j Field blanks were analyzed periodically to ensure that the sampling equipment
was being properly decontaminated. The decontamination pr
acadure included a
a non-phosphate (TSP brand) detergent wash, followed by a tap water rinse, and two
distilled water rinses.
After the soil vapor study was completed, each of the soil vapor
monitoring locations were grouted, filled and sealed, from bottom to top, with
a cement-bentonite slurry.
Ground dater Sampling. Three exis0,si5 domestic ground water wells
were sampled by purging the sample cock for two to three minutes and completely .
filling the sample container with water, to ensure no head space in the container _
to prevent volatilization of the sample. The samples from each well were
collected in two 40-m1 VOA vials and a 1-liter amber glass bottle. The
VOAvials
were preserved with sodium azide o
r sodium hydrogen sulfate and were used
1-liter amber glass bottles
analyses.of organic contaminants. The were preserved 1
with nitric acid and were used for analyses for total lead.
< tainers were
Immediately after the samples were collected, the battles (VOA F
sealed,'without head space, labeled, taped shut, secured in guard
vials), and placed in an ice chest containing artificial ice for preservation. -~ y
Chain-of-custody documentation accompanied the , ground water samples from .
' collection until delivery to the laboratory.
