(AGE) is
requesting approval from the San Joaquin County Public Health Services - Environmental Health
Division (PHS-EHD) to spread two soil stockpiles (Stockpile Nos. 1 and 2) presently located in a
southwest section of the Sierra Lumber site; Stockpile No. 1 was generated during drilling activities
at the site in July 1998 while Stockpile No. 2 was generated during drilling activities at the site in
June 1999.
On 10 November 1999,a representative from AGE collected soil samples from the above mentioned
stockpiled soil at the direction of the PHS-EHD. Soil samples were preserved by covering both ends
of a brass sleeve with Teflon sheets, capping and sealing with tape. Each preserved sample sleeve
was labeled with location, time, date and sampler's initials. Each preserved sample was logged on
a chain-of-custody form, placed in a chilled container and transported to a California Department
of Health Services (DHS)-certified laboratory for analysis of:
• Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline (TPH-g) by EPA Method 8015M; and
• Volatile aromatic compounds (benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene and xylene: BTEX) with
methyl-tertiary butyl ether(MTBE) by EPA Method 8020.
The laboratory reports of the soil analyses are attached. Xylenes were detected from Stockpile No.
1 at a concentration of 0.015 milligrams per kilogram (mg/kg). No benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene
or TPH-g were reported from the analyses.
AGE proposes to spread the stockpiled soil at its present location at a thickness of approximately
6-inches.
4005 North Wilson Way,Stockton,California 95205
Telephone(209)467-1006 FAX(209)467-1118
