0
APPENDIX E
ADSORBED MASS &VOLUME CALCULATIONS: PRE-EXCAVATION
Sierra Lumber(Case No. 1)
375 West Hazelton Avenue, Stockton CA
Pre-Remediation Impacted Soil Mass/Volume Assumptions:
• Utilizing Figures 6 through 8, the pre-remediation mass distribution of total petroleum
hydrocarbon quantified as gasoline (TPH-g) concentrations at the site can be estimated
utilizing three (3) contoured zones of 10,000 mg/kg, 1,000 mg/kg, and 100 mg/kg.
• Figures 6 through 8 were generated utilizing AutoCADTM drafting software.AutoCADTM has
a specific function to calculate the area of a selected object, such as each area between the
above referenced TPH-g isoconcentration intervals. Based on Figure 8, AutoCADTM
determined the 10,000 mg/kg interval to be equal to 40.7 ft?,the 1,000 mg/kg interval to be
equal to 242 W and the 100 mg/kg interval to be equal to 3,219.7 ft'.
• The area and volume of each contoured zone can be estimated utilizing the AutoCADTM
computer program to determine the area between the above referenced 10000, 1000 and 100
contoured zone intervals (Figure 8), and then multiplying the area by the height of the
contoured zone as modeled from cross-sections A-A' and C-C' (Figures 6 and 7).
The volume of the shapes can be calculated by the formula:
V=AREA•h,where"area"is determined through AutoCadTM(Figure 8)and"h"is
the maximum height of the contamination(Figure 6).
The average TPH-g concentration in each zone was estimated by summing the contour
isoconcentration lines and the soil samples within the selected area and dividing by the total number;
the average from the inner zone (10,000 mg/kg) was determined by taking the average of BT-16
(14,000 mg/kg) and the 10,000 mg/kg contour line. Average TPH-g concentrations within each
contoured zone(reported as milligrams per kilogram,mg/kg) are as follows:
• >10,000 mg/kg✓The sum of BT-16 (14,000 mg/kg) and the 10,000 mg/kg contour line;
average= 12,0.00 mg/kg(equivalent to 0.012)-K3
• 1,000-10,000 m ug: The sum of the 1,000 mg/kg contour line,the 10,000 mg/kg contour
line, BT-21 (7,300 mg/kg), MW-30 (1,900 mg/kg), AW5-25 (1,700 mg/kg), MW2-25
(1,000 mg/kg); average=3,817 mg/kg(equivalent to 0.003817)X3
• 100 - 1,000 mg/kg : The sum of 134-25 (650 mg/kg), VWI-30 (590 mg/kg), BT-26 (400
mg/kg), MWl-25 (350 mg/kg), VW6-25 (260 mg/kg), 132-25 (220 mg/kg), AW5-35_130
mg/kg)the 1 000 mg/kg contour line and the 100 mg/kg contour line,average=411 mg/kg
(0.000411) l
Advanced GwEnvironmental,Inc.
