O. Box 388, S kton CA 95201-0388
Stockton, CA 95202 Approved
Denied
Subject: Work Plan for Ground Water Extraction Well Abando%% ons
SIERRA LUMBER ate q of
375 West Hazelton Avenue, Stockton, California
Dear Mr. Knoll:
At the request of Mr. Bob Long of Sierra Lumber,Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc. (AGE)has prepared
this work plan for the abandonment of one ground water extraction well at Sierra Lumber, 375 West
Hazelton Avenue in Stockton,California. The location of the site is illustrated in Figure 1; site structures and
monitoring well locations are depicted on Figure 2.Also enclosed with this work plan is a well abandonment
permit and the associated well abandonment permit fee.
INTRODUCTIONBACKGROUND
In June 1999,one 6-inch diameter ground water extraction well(EW-1)was installed at the site to supplement
a ground water pump test; EW-1 was installed to a total depth of approximately 45 feet below surface grade
(bsg)with slotted well casing between 15 and 45 feet bsg.
Based on lithology data collected from soil borings at the site, fine to medium sand was generally
encountered between 25 to 35 feet bsg and between 45 to 50 feet bsg; silty clay/clayey silt was generally
encountered at depths between 35 feet and 45 feet bsg. AGE suspects that EW-1 may be a vertical conduit
to from shallow to deeper depth ground water; furthermore, there are no future plans to utilize EW-1 for site
characterization or site remediation.
Therefore,AGE proposes to properly abandon EW-1 in accordance with San Joaquin County Public Health
Services-Environmental Health Division(PHS-EHD) Well Standards.
PROCEDURES
As required by PHS-EHD permitting, a health and safety plan will be prepared in accordance with
Occupational Safety and Health Guidance Manual for Hazardous Waste Site Activities(National Institute
for Occupational Safety and Health Administration,U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Environmental Protection
Agency, 1985). Prior to drilling activities, each proposed drilling location will be clearly marked and an
utility clearance obtained through Underground Service Alert.
837 Shaw Road,Stockton, California 95215
Telephone (209)467-1006 FAX(209)467-1118
