03 September 2004
AGE-NC Project No 98-0448
' Page 6of13
' SVE/IAS remediation operations were temporarily suspended on 10 March 2004 to make the above
mentioned repairs, the SVE/IAS remediation system was re-started on 20 April 2004
' Due to a `spike' encountered in the SVE influent air flow vapor sample collected on 03 June 2004,
AGE re-installd two sequential 100-gallon carbon canisters routed to the outlet of the vacuum blower
on 04 June 2004
3 1 SOIL VAPOR EXTRACTION SYSTEM PROCEDURES
' The SVE system utilized a Fuji, 3-horsepower regenerative vacuum blower to volatilize and extract
adsorbed hydrocarbon vapor from the subsurface A manifold network of two-inch diameter, '
' schedule 80 PVC piping was installed underground from wells VW-1 through VW-6 to the inlet of
the'regenerative vacuum blower, the outlet from the vacuum blower was routed through a vapor
' moisture knockout drum
A Magnehelic vacuum gauge was attached to the inlet of the blower, air flow was monitored at the
inlet using a Dwyer DS-200 flow sensor A flow rate was determined from the measured differential
pressure and the piping diameter using a nomograph (Appendix F) I '
' In order to monitor the efficiency of hydrocarbon removal, 1)the SVE air flow of the influent stream
was monitored routinely utilizing an organic vapor analyzer(OVA),and 2)an influent air flow vapor
stream sample was collected from sampling ports installed upstream(influent)of the vacuum blower
' and analyzed Field measurements were recorded at regular intervals and are summarized in Table 3
' 3 I 1 COLLECTION AND ANALYSIS OF VAPOR EXTRACTION AIR FLOW SAMPLES
A total of five extracted influent air flow vapor samples were collected on 23 February, 27 April,
' 26 May,03 June and 22 June 2003 from the influent stream of the regenerative vacuum blower unit
to measure concentrations of hydrocarbon vapor The samples were collected in Tedlar bags using
a hand air-vacuum pump
' Following sample collection, the, samples were properly labeled, placed in a covered container and
transported under chain of custody to Cal Tech Environmental Laboratories(CTEL),a DHS-certified
' laboratory for analysis Each sample was analyzed within 72 hours of collection for TPH-g and
BTEX in accordance with EPA Methods 8015C Modified and 8021B, respectively
1
Advanced GeaEnvironmental,Inc
I
r
