i A <br /> ' Harding Lawson Qssoe[ates <br /> December 20, 1994 <br /> 276901 <br /> Mr Harlin Knoll <br /> San Joaquin County <br /> JPublic Health Services - Environmental Health Division <br /> Post Office Box 2009 <br /> Stockton, California 95201 <br />- Closure Assessment <br /> Two Former Underground Storage Tank Sites <br /> and a 10,000 gallon Fuel Oil Bunker <br /> Holly Sugar Factory <br /> Tracy, California <br /> Dear Mr Knoll <br /> s 1 Harding Lawson Associates (HI.A) is pleased to present to San Joaquin County Public Health Services - <br /> Environmental Health Services (SJCEHS) this report on behalf of Holly Sugar Corporation (HSC) for <br /> the assessment of two former underground storage tanks (USTs) and a concrete 10,000-gallon fuel oil <br /> bunker at the HSC facility in Tracy California (Plate 1) ThLs assessment has been conducted at the <br /> _ 1 request of Mr Matthew Fenske of HSC and in accordance with the scope of work described in HLA's <br /> work plan to SJCEHS dated March 16, 1994 Currently HSC wishes to obtain closure on the two UST <br /> sites and the fuel oil bunker To obtain closure, the SJCEHS had requested an evaluation of the <br /> groundwater at the UST sites SJCEHS also requested an assessment of the soil and/or groundwater at <br /> the bunker oil storage site <br /> BACKGROUND <br /> Two USTs were formerly located at the HSC facility (Plate 1) Both USTs were removed under permit <br /> from the SJCEHS in 1985 One UST was a 1,000 gallon unleaded tank (designated Site A) and located <br /> _ near the Factory Repair Shop (Plate 2) The second was a 1,000 gallon leaded UST (designated Site B) <br /> located on the north side of the molasses tanks (Plate 3) Sail samples collected from each end of the <br /> USTs as directed by SJCEHS at the time of removal contained the following concentrations of <br /> petroleum hydrocarbons <br /> UNLEADED TANK (Site A) WEST END EAST END <br /> TPH 51 parts per billion (ppb) 205 ppb <br /> J <br /> Benzene 354 ppb <33 0 ppb <br /> Toluene 627 ppb 925 ppb <br /> Xylene 1880 ppb 925 ppb <br /> vi. <br /> Engineering and 3247 Ramos Circle Sacramento CA 95827 916/364 0793 FAX 9161364 5633 <br /> Envlronnnenlal Services A Sahsrdiary of Harding Assnnares Offcrs Vasron—de <br /> i <br /> i <br />
