• TPHg was detected in three of the composite samples (C, E, and F) and pothole G at 12 feet
bgs. In these locations, TPHg concentrations ranged from 11 mg/Kg to 220 mg/Kg
• TPHd was detected in one of the composite samples (C) at a concentration of 61 mg/Kg
• TPHmo was detected in three of the composite samples (C, E, and F) ranging between 680
mg/Kg and 770 mg/Kg
• TPHho was detected in one of the composite samples (G) at a concentration of 410 mg/Kg
• BTEX constituents were detected in three of the composite samples (C, E, and F) and pothole
G at 12 feet bgs
a Benzene ranged from below detection limits to 0.40 mg/Kg
a Toluene ranged from below detection limits to 0.33 mg/Kg
o Ethylbenzene ranged from 0.080 mg/Kg to 1.9 mg/Kg
o Xylenes (total)ranged from 0.36 mg/Kg to 3.2 mg/Kg
• Lead was detected in each of the samples and concentrations ranged from 3.2 mg/Kg to 86
mg/Kg.
2.2.4 Analytical Results—Bunker
The soil samples collected on January 24, 2011 were submitted for the following analyses:
• Total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH) as bunker oil by EPA method 8015Mod; and
• BTEX by EPA method 8021B
Analytical results are summarized below and in Table 3. The laboratory analytical report is
included in Attachments A-3.
• TPH as bunker oil was detected in both of the composite samples and ranged from 1,200
mg/Kg to 1,900 mg/Kg
• BTEX constituents were only detected in one of the composite samples (H)
o Benzene was not detected above laboratory detection limits
o Toluene 0.010 mg/Kg
o Ethylbenzene 0.007 mg/Kg
o Xylenes (total) 0.047 mg/Kg
2.3 Well Destruction Activities
2.3.1 Destruction of MW-B
On January 3, 2011, Ground Zero supervised the destruction of MW-B located downgradient of
the former UST B. The well was destroyed by V&W Drilling, Inc. (V&W) of Lodi, California
(C57-720904) under the extended EHD well destruction pen-nit number SR#61285. Prior to well
destruction the depth to bottom (dtb) was monitored to insure no obstructions were present. The
well was destroyed by pressure grouting with neat cement grout. Neat cement grout was poured
into the well in one slow continuous operation, through a tremie pipe until completely full. The
grout level was checked for subsidence and approximately 12-inches of grout was added to the
well casing. The grout was not pressurized because it was scheduled to be removed during
excavation activities.
-4-
