1..
2.0 GROUNDWATER MONITORING, SAMPLING AND ANALYSIS
On December 15, 2005, to comply with quarterly groundwater monitoring requirements,
L Ramage Environmental monitored and sampled 10 of the 11 monitoring wells, and collected
." groundwater samples from the nearby cemetery irrigation well #2. Monitoring well MW-1 was
dry, and was not sampled.
2.1 Groundwater Monitoring
Depth-to-groundwater measurements were taken in all of the accessible groundwater
. monitoring wells to evaluate groundwater flow and gradient characteristics. The cumulative
groundwater monitoring data are summarized in Table 4.
The depth-to-groundwater beneath the site ranged from 43.84 feet bgs at MW-4 to 47.53 feet
bgs at MW-7. MW-7 is the only well completed above-grade and protected with a monument
r casing. The groundwater elevation beneath the site ranged from a high of 26.99 feet below
mean sea level (msl) at MW-2 to a low of 27.56 feet below ms] at MW-8A.
Separate groundwater surface maps are included for the shallow-constructed wells (Figure 6)
and the deep-constructed wells (Figure 7). Using the shallow-constructed wells, the
groundwater surface appears as an irregular plane dipping toward the north-northeast at a
y gradient of 0.00188 foot/foot. Using the deep-constructed wells, the groundwater surface
appears as an irregular plane dipping toward the north-northeast at a gradient of 0.00241
foot/foot. The groundwater surface configurations are generally consistent with historical
groundwater gradients and flow directions.
Between August 25, and December 15, 2005, the groundwater surface beneath the site rose
an average of 1.17 feet. The groundwater gradient configured using the shallow-constructed
t,. wells decreased from 0.00190 to 0.00188 foot/foot, and the gradient using the deep-
constructed wells decreased from 0.00380 to 0.00241 foot/foot. The groundwater flow
direction remained relatively consistent toward the north-northeast.
2.2 Groundwater Sampling and Analysis
Groundwater was sampled from eight monitoring wells (MW-2, MW-3, MW-4, MW-5, MW-6,
MW-7, MW-8A and MW-813), two deep soil vapor extraction wells (VW-1 and VW-2), and
Irrigation Well #2. Each of the monitoring wells and deep soil vapor extraction wells was
purged of at least three well volumes using a pump and disposable tubing.
.r 9
.r
L..
