1.0 INTRODUCTION
iOn behalf of the San Joaquin Catholic Cemetery, Ramage Environmental has prepared this
Groundwater Monitoring Report, Fourth Quarter 2004 for submittal to the San Joaquin County
1 Environmental Health Division (EHD) and the Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control
Board (RWQCB)
1 1 Site Description
The subject property is an operating cemetery located on the northeast corner of Harding Way
and Cemetery Lane in the city of Stockton (San Joaquin County), California (Figure 1) The
project site is located on the east side of the mausoleum budding (Figures 2 and 3)
12 Previous Work Summary
On November 17, 1989, two underground gasoline storage tanks (UST) and associated
pumping equipment were removed from the site Between August 1990 and April 1995, based
ron evidence of impacted soil and groundwater beneath the site, five groundwater monitoring
wells, two sod vapor extraction wells and two soil vapor extraction well nests were installed
Groundwater has been sampled at the site since August 1990 A dramatic rise in groundwater
elevations since well installations in the early 1990s resulted in the groundwater table above the
screened intervals of the five original groundwater monitoring wells The rise in groundwater
elevations also resulted in static groundwater entering the deep sod vapor extraction wells On
April 28, 1998, Ramage Environmental installed two additional groundwater monitoring wells
(MW-6 and MW-7) to re-establish a groundwater table monitoring and sampling capability
On May 20, 1998, Ramage Environmental published a Problem Assessment Report and
Corrective Action Plan for the site Soil vapor extraction and air sparging were recommended as
the most efficient and practical remedial alternatives
From June 1999 through June 2000, ENSR Consultants (ENSR) operated a soil vapor
extraction (SVE) system at the site Initially, ENSR extracted from VW-1D, VW-1S, VW-2S,
VW-3, and VW-4 After several months of operation, air spargmg was initiated in MW-1
According to ENSR, the remediation system removed over 7,000 pounds of gasoline
hydrocarbons from the subsurface In July 2000, ENSR decommissioned the system and
removed the equipment from the site
3
