10 INTRODUCTION
•
On behalf of the San Joaquin Catholic Cemetery, Ramage Environmental has prepared this
Groundwater Monitoring and Extraction Report First Quarter 2004 for submittal to the San
Joaquin County Environmental Health Division (EHD) and the Central Valley Regional Water
Quality Control Board (RWQCB)
This report documents quarterly groundwater monitoring, sampling and analysis for the Fourth
Quarter of 2003 and the First Quarter of 2004, and three monthly groundwater extraction events
for January, February and March 2004 The groundwater extraction scope of work was outlined
in Ramage Environmental's Work Plan for Groundwater Extraction, dated June 20, 2003 EHD
approved the work plan on September 16, 2003
1 1 Site Description
The subject property is an operating cemetery located on the northeast corner of Harding Way
and Cemetery lane in the city of Stockton (San Joaquin County), California (Figure 1) The
project site is located on the east side of the mausoleum building (Figures 2 and 3)
12 Previous Work Summary
On November 17, 1989, two underground gasoline storage tanks (UST) and associated
pumping equipment were removed from the site Between August 1990 and April 1995, based
on evidence of impacted soil and groundwater beneath the site, five groundwater monitoring
wells, two soil vapor extraction wells and two soil vapor extraction well nests were installed
Groundwater has been sampled at the site since August 1990 A dramatic rise in groundwater
elevations since well installations in the early 1990s resulted in the groundwater table above the
screened intervals of the five original groundwater monitoring wells The rise in groundwater
' elevations also resulted in static groundwater entering the deep soil vapor extraction wells
On April 28, 1998, Ramage Environmental installed two additional groundwater monitoring wells
(MW-6 and MW-7) to re-establish a groundwater table monitoring and sampling capability
' On May 20, 1998, Ramage Environmental published a Problem Assessment Report and
Corrective Action Plan for the site Soil vapor extraction and air sparging were recommended as
the most efficient and practical remedial alternatives
3
