2 0 GROUNDWATER MONITORING, SAMPLING AND ANALYSIS
On December 18, 2003 and March 25, 2004, to comply with quarterly groundwater monitoring
requirements and to evaluate the effectiveness of groundwater extraction efforts, Ramage
' Environmental monitored and sampled 10 of the 11 monitoring wells, and collected groundwater
samples from the nearby cemetery irrigation well #2 Monitoring well MW-1 was not monitored
or sampled, due to damage to the wellhead and an obstruction downhole
21 Groundwater Monitoring
During both monitoring events, depth-to-groundwater measurements were taken in all ten of the
accessible groundwater monitoring wells to evaluate groundwater flow and gradient
characteristics The cumulative groundwater monitoring data are summarized in Table 1
On December 18, 2003, the depth-to-groundwater beneath the site ranged from 46 41 feet
below ground surface (bgs) at MW-4 to 50 12 feet bgs at MW-7 MW-7 is the only well
completed above-grade and protected with a monument casing The groundwater elevation
beneath the site ranged from a high of 29 50 feet below mean sea level (MSL) at MW-2 to a low
of 30 21 feet below MSL at MW-8A
On March 25, 2004, the depth-to-groundwater beneath the site ranged from 43 39 feet bgs at
MW-4 to 47 08 feet bgs at MW-7 The groundwater elevation beneath the site ranged from a
high of 26 60 feet below MSL at MW-2 to a low of 27 03 feet below MSL at MW-813
For both sampling events, separate groundwater surface maps are included for the shallow-
constructed wells (Figures 4 and 5) and the deep-constructed wells (Figures 6 and 7) Using the
shallow-constructed wells, the groundwater gradient ranged from approximately 0 00246 to
0 00106 footlfoot in a northeastly direction Using the deep-constructed wells, the groundwater
gradient ranged from approximately 0 00291 to 0 00187 foottfoot in a northeasterly direction
These groundwater surface configurations are generally consistent with historical groundwater
gradients and flow directions
2.2 Groundwater Sampling and Analysis
During both sampling events, groundwater was sampled from eight monitonng wells (MW-2,
MW-3, MW-4, MW-5, MW-6, MW-7, MW-8A, and MW-81B), two deep sod vapor extraction wells
(VW-1 and VW-2), and Irrigation Well #2 Each of the monitoring wells and deep soil vapor
extraction wells was purged of at least three well volumes using a pump and disposable tubing
