10 INTRODUCTION
rOn behalf of the San Joaquin Catholic Cemetery, Ramage Environmental has prepared this
Groundwater Monitoring Report, Third Quarter 2003 for submittal to the San Joaquin County
Environmental Health Division (EHD) and the Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control
Board (RWQCB)
1.1 Site Description
The subject property is an operating cemetery located on the northeast corner of Harding Way
and Cemetery Lane in the city of Stockton (San Joaquin County), California (Figure 1) The
protect site is located on the east side of the mausoleum budding (Figures 2 and 3)
1.2 Previous Work Summary
On November 17, 1989, two underground gasoline storage tanks(UST) and associated
pumping equipment were removed from the site Between August 1990 and April 1995, based
on evidence of impacted soil and groundwater beneath the site, five groundwater monitoring
wells, two soil vapor extraction wells and two soil vapor extraction well nests were installed
Groundwater has been sampled at the site since August 1990 A dramatic rise in groundwater
elevation since well installation in the early 1990s resulted in groundwater table levels above the
screened interval of the original five groundwater monitoring wells The rise in groundwater
elevation also resulted in static groundwater entering the deep soil vapor extraction wells
rOn April 28, 1998, Ramage Environmental installed two additional groundwater monitoring wells
(MW-6 and MW-7) to re-establish a groundwater table monitoring and sampling capability
On May 20, 1998, Ramage Environmental published a Problem Assessment Report and
Corrective Action Plan for the site Soil vapor extraction and air sparging were recommended as
the most efficient and practical remedial alternatives On September 8, 1998, the USTCF pre-
approved the cost to construct and operate a sod vapor extraction and air sparging system at the
site The San Joaquin Catholic Cemetery contracted with ENSR Consultants (ENSR)to
complete the pre-approved scope of work
3
