In light of recent State Water Resources Control Board guidelines regarding the closure of leaking
underground storage tank sites and given the nature and extent of impacted groundwater at the
' site, it may be possible to replace active remediation with monitoring and eventually gain site
closure as a "low-risk" groundwater case Before any additional groundwater sampling is
conducted, the construction of the on-site wells should be researched to determine the position of
the groundwater.surface relative to the well screen intervals If groundwater levels are found to be
significantly above the well screen intervals, these wells should not be sampled further In order
to obtain groundwater samples which are representative of subsurface conditions it may be
' possible to sample groundwater from the two nested vapor extraction wells already installed at the
site A review of the construction logs for these wells indicates that their screen intervals coincide
' with the present-day groundwater table elevation
In summary, IT Corporation recommends that the following tasks be performed to accurately
monitor groundwater conditions and qualify the site as a "low-risk" groundwater case for expedited
' case closure
1 Research well construction for all wells at the site,
2 Monitor and sample wells with appropriate screened intervals and evaluate results
for future sampling, if necessary,
' 3 Document any possible nearby sensitive receptors by performing a survey of water
wells within a '/2-mile radius of the site,
' 4 Dispose of drummed purge water at the site by discharge to land or the sanitary
sewer system
e
3
