Laboratory samples were taken during the initial start-up of
the soil vapor extraction system as required by Authority to Construct (ATC) No. N-732-3-0. The
test was performed on June 2, 1999 under the supervision of Diane Busalacchl, an inspector
with the San Joaquin Valley Unified Air Pollution Control District (SJVUAPCD). Samples were
taken in order to measure the VOC emission rate and control efficiency of the ThermTech, Inc.
Model VAC25 Thermal/Catalytic Oxidizer.
The remediation system is connected to six (6) vapor extraction wells (VW-1 S, VW-1 D, VW-2S,
VW-2D, VW-3, and VW-4) and one (1) groundwater monitoring well (MW-1) (Figure 2). The
emission verification test was performed while extracting from wells VW-1D' VW-11S, VW-2S,
VW-3, and VW-4. The following test procedures were conducted according to the ENSR
standard operating procedures (SOPs) included as Attachment 1.
• The test was initiated at approximately 3:30 PM on June 2, 1999. Once started, the
system was given ample time to stabilize, after which, the system parameters were
measured. Influent and effluent air velocity pressures were measured using a Pitot tube,
static system pressures were measured with a differential pressure gauge, and intake,
exhaust, and combustion temperatures were measured with an electronic gauge.
• The air samples were analyzed for five constituents of concern: purgeable
hydrocarbons, benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes.
The system parameters are shown in Table 1. The laboratory analytical report is included as
Attachment 2 and the corresponding results are summarized in Table 2. System influent
concentrations and extraction rates are also presented in Table 2.
nEN S 818728100118728001.BLT.d oc
