process is effective using EPA test method 200.7, AASC's lab will perform chromium analyses
using atomic absorption spectroscopy. pH will not be measured by a certified lab initially since
the treatment process requires a pH of 8.5 to 9.0 to "floc" the solution and complete the
treatment cycle. The discharge also passes through our pH neutralization system which
discharges at a pH of around 10, as required by our POTW Wastewater Discharge Permit. We
will however, measure the pH using the HACH pH probe and meter in the treatment tank after
each treatment cycle and only discharge to the city sewer if chromium analysis meets POTW
permit conditions.
SAMPLING METHODS
Samples will be collected from each of the two alodizing rinse waters and the water scrubber
unit. These locations are from each source which make up the aqueous solutions requiring
treatment. A coliwasa tube will be used to obtain representative samples from each of the 3
locations. After treatment, samples will be taken from the chromium treatment system discharge
tank. A coliwasa tube will also be used to collect these samples.
FREQUENCY OF ANALYSIS
Analysis at the point of discharge will be initially conducted to determine the proper tier
category under the tiered permitting system and periodically, unless there is a change to the
process, at which time analysis of the affected source will be conducted. After treatment,
analysis of the treated water will be initially collected from the chromium treatment system
discharge tank and chromium analysis will be performed by a certified lab. After the initial
analysis by a certified lab, all future samples will be analyzed for chromium by AASC's lab
using Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy and pH using the HACH pH probe and meter prior to
discharge to the city sewer. After treatment, all chromium results will be documented and
maintained with the daily inspection log sheets.
