The
purpose of the additional subsurface investigation is to further evaluate the vertical and horizontal
extent of petroleum impacted soil and groundwater in the vicinity of the former underground
storage tanks (USTs). This work being done at the direction of San Joaquin County
Environmental Health Department (EHD) in correspondence dated May 7, 2002.
The scope of work includes obtaining permits, advancing six soil borings, potentially completing
the borings as monitoring wells, collecting soil and groundwater samples, laboratory analysis of
selected soil and groundwater samples, and preparing a summary report. The scope of work is
described in detail in the following paragraphs.
BACKGROUND
In April 1987, SEMCO removed and disposed of two 1,000-gallon regular gasoline underground
storage tanks (USTs), associated piping, and fuel dispenser from the locations shown on Figure 2.
A soil sample was collected from the end of each tank at approximately 17 feet below ground
surface. Analytical testing indicated the collected samples contained detectable concentrations of
petroleum hydrocarbon constituents. The excavation was subsequently backfilled to the ground
surface.
• On July 24, 1997, to investigate the extent of residual soil contamination at the site, 'a total of six
soil borings were advanced to depths ranging from approximately 16 to 31 feet below ground
w:192054.0001\rep0ft%\Wkp1n_add_inv.doc I
ENVIRONMENTAL, GEOTECHNICAL AND MATERIALS PROFESSIONALS
