Ms.Margaret Lagorio, SJCEHD January 5,2005
Work Plan for Additional Site Assessment and Project No. 2033-15600-01
Evaluation of Remedial Alternatives
Joe's Truck Plaza,Lathrop,California
Page 6
Soil in the remaining brass tubes will be screened for volatile organic compounds using
field instrumentation equipped with a photoionization detector (PTD). Stratus will record
PID readings, soil types, and other pertinent geologic data on the borehole log. At a
minimum, the sample from just above first-encountered groundwater and the sample
from the bottom of the boring will be submitted for chemical analysis. Additional
samples may be submitted for chemical analysis or physical testing at the discretion of
the Registered Geologist or Engineer overseeing the project.
Monitoriniz Well Construction
Monitoring wells MW-9 through MW-11 will be completed to a depth of approximately
15 feet bgs. The well screen will consist of 10 feet of 2-inch diameter, 0.02-inch factory
slotted PVC, installed from approximately 5 to 15 feet bgs. A filter pack of LonestarTM
#3 sand will be placed in the annular space around the well screen, from the bottom of the
boring to approximately 1 foot above the top of the screen. One foot of bentonite will be
placed on top of the filter pack and hydrated with clean water, to provide a transitional
seal for the well. The remaining annular space will be backfilled with neat cement. A
traffic rated vault box will be placed over the wells and a watertight locking cap will be
placed on the top of the casing. The Registered Geologist or Engineer overseeing the
project may modify the actual well construction based on conditions encountered at the
time of the investigation.
Monitoring well MW-8 will be completed to a depth of approximately 40 feet bgs. The
well screen will consist of 15 feet of 2-inch diameter, 0.02-inch factory slotted PVC,
installed from approximately 25 to 40 feet bgs. A filter pack of LonestarTM #3 sand will
be placed in the annular space around the well screen, from the bottom of the boring to a
maximum of 2 feet above the top of the screen. Two feet of bentonite will be placed on
top of the filter pack to provide a transitional seal for the well. The remaining annular
space will be backfilled with neat cement up to surface grade. A traffic rated vault box
will be placed over the wells and a watertight locking cap will be placed on the top of the
well casings. The Registered Geologist or Engineer overseeing the project may modify
the actual well construction based on conditions encountered at the time of the
investigation.
Survevin
The elevations of each newly installed groundwater monitoring well will be surveyed to
the nearest 0.01 vertical feet relative to mean sea level (MSL) based on San Joaquin
County benchmark UV-34. The horizontal locations of the wells and borings will be
measured using the Global Positioning System (GPS). Surveying activities will be
performed under the direction of a California-licensed surveyor. Surveying data will be
K:Voe's Tmck Plaza\Work PlansUoes workplan 010505.doc
