Ms.Margaret Lagorio,SJCEHD October 21,2003
Joe's Truck Plaza Project No. 2033-15600-01
Work Plan for Additional Site Assessment
Page 10
ozone, will be installed on all threaded well casing joints. A filter pack of LonestarTM
#2/20 sand will be placed around the sparge point from the base of the boring to
approximately 1 foot above the top of the sparge point. Approximately 2 feet of
bentonite will be placed on top of the filter pack to provide a sanitary seal for the well.
The boring will be subsequently backfilled with neat cement up to surface grade. The
tops of the well casings will be fitted with the appropriate hardware which will allow the
ozone conveyance piping to be attached.
Surveying
The elevations of each newly installed groundwater monitoring well and exploratory soil
boring will be surveyed to the nearest 0.01 vertical feet. The elevations will be surveyed
relative to mean sea level (MSL) based on San Joaquin County benchmark UV-34. The
horizontal locations of the wells and borings will be measured using the GPS system.
Surveying activities will be performed under the direction of a California-licensed
surveyor. Surveying data will be forwarded to the State Water Resources Control Board
for inclusion in the GeoTracker database.
Well Development and Groundwater Sampling
The newly installed groundwater monitoring and extraction wells will be developed a
minimum of 72 hours after installation. Development will consist of surging with a
bailer and groundwater pumping. Development will continue, to the extent practical,
until the discharged water runs clean. After well development and stabilization of the
water levels, water levels and the quantity of well volumes removed from the well will be
recorded.
A minimum of 24 hours after the groundwater monitoring wells have been developed, the
wells will be purged and groundwater samples will be collected. The samples will be
collected using a disposable bailer, transferred to laboratory-supplied glass vials, labeled,
and placed in an ice-chilled cooler. The samples will remain chilled until relinquished to
a state-certified analytical laboratory. Strict chain-of-custody procedures will be
followed from the time the samples are collected until the time the samples are
relinquished to the laboratory. The newly installed monitoring wells will be incorporated
into the existing quarterly monitoring and sampling program.
Waste Management
All soil cuttings generated during the field activities will be placed on and covered with
plastic sheeting, and stored at the site pending disposal. A composite sample will be
collected from the soil cuttings for disposal characterization. Upon receipt of the
analytical data, a licensed contractor will transport the soil to an appropriate disposal
facility.
P:\Joe's Truck Plaza\Work Plans\Does workplan 102103.doc
