1.0 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY 1 Avalon Environmental Consultants (Avalon) conducted a Fourth Quarter Groundwater Monitoring at the request of Mr Kashmar Singh and Mr Dalwinder Dhoot, owners of Joe's Truck Plaza The first and second quarters of 2001 were missed The assessment was performed at the Joe's Truck Plaza located at 15600 South Harlan Road, Lathrop, County of San Joaquin, California, on November 5, 2001 1 On November 5, 2001, six groundwater monitoring wells were purged and sampled on the subject property Groundwater samples were analyzed for Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons as diesel (TPHd), Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPHg), Benzene, Toluene, Ethyl benzene and Xylene (BTEX), Lead scavengers (1,2-DCA and 1 EDB), and Oxygenates including Ethanol and Methanol Four of the six groundwater monitoring wells on the subject property detected Methyl- t-butyl-ether (MTBE) The highest detection of MTBE encountered is 730 parts per billion (ppb) found in groundwater monitoring well MW-2, located northeast of the 1 former tank farm excavation The second highest detection was in MW-3, located east of the former tank farm excavation The level of MTBE found in MW-3 was 110 ppb Based upon groundwater measurement taken at the subject property on November 5, 2001, the groundwater gradient is to the east with a northeast component 20 GROUNDWATER SAMPLING PROCEDURES All wells were purged until the pH, conductivity and temperature stabilized or until at least three well volumes were evacuated The pumping rate during the purging of all wells was approximately one gallon per minute (gpm) A total volume of approximately 5 to 6 gallons were discharged from each well All purged groundwater was collected in 55-gallon, Department of Transportation (DOT) approved drums, sealed and temporarily stored on-site pending disposal based on the laboratory results Before initiating sampling activities, measurements of the depth to water and depth to i bottom of the well casing were made to determine the well volume for all wells A minimum of three well volumes were purged from all monitoring wells before collecting groundwater samples The pH, temperature, and specific conductivity of the groundwater were measured i during the well purging phase The final measurements were compared with physical water quality data obtained during well development to ensure that aquifer water was inside the well casing before collecting samples A summary of the field measurements during well purging is presented in Appendix II The water samples were collected with hand held PVC disposable bailers Sample containers were labeled and chilled i on ice immediately after collection Groundwater samples were analyzed for Total Avalon Environmental Consultants Project#9627-001-8 Joe's Truck Plaza 15600 South Harlan Road December 5, 2001 1 Lathrop, California I
